Abstract:Objective To carry out an investigation and medical treatment of advanced schistosomiasis patients, and to provide policy basis for improving the prevention and control of advanced schistosomiasis. Methods From 2007 to 2018, an investigation was carried out on the existing advanced schistosomajaponicum patients in Tongxiang City, and the medical assistance and outcome of the patients included in the treatment were analyzed. Results One hundred and eighty patients with advanced schistosomiasis in this city from 2007 to 2018 were investigated and included in medical assistance, including 83 males and 97 females, with a sex ratio of 1∶1.17 and an average age of 65.24. The cases were distributed in 10 towns of the city, consistent with the historical epidemic situation. The cases had a low level of education, with illiteracy accounting for 81.11%, with the main occupation of farmers. The main clinical type was megaspleen type (79.44%), with ascites type (20.00%) the next.Improvement and stability accounted for 54.44%.During the period, 82 patients died of advanced age or complications, of whom 51.22% died of complications such as cirrhosis, upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage and liver cancer. The mortality of the patients with advanced schistosomiasis showed a linear increasing trend, with the increase of age.A total of 5,704,100 yuan, or 31,700 yuan per person, was invested in medical assistance in 12 years. Conclusion The advanced schistosomiasis patients in Tongxiang are mainly distributed in the severe epidemic area.Most of them are elderly patients, mainly farmers, with low level of education and long course of disease.Long-term follow-up and medical assistance should be carried out to improve the quality of life and survival rate of the patients.
