Abstract:Objective To reveal the causal relationship among vocational values, career maturity and career development including job selection and self career choice, and to provide intervention basis for career development of new nurses. Methods With self-design questionnaire, we collected data of 148 cases of new nurses, mainly including general data, vocational values, career maturity, and career development. Path table and path diagram were used to reveal the causal relationship among different dimensions. Results According to the size of the path coefficient, the dimensions of self-affirmation (0.340), occupation recognition (0.323) and information use (0.153) of career maturity directly affected job selection, but the three dimensions of vocational values (0.131, 0.129, and 0.182 respectively) indirectly affected job selection through self-affirmation. These dimensions such as self-affirmation (0.311), occupation recognition (0.145), the use of information (0.100), independence (0.141) and economic returns (0.125) directly affected the self career choice. Besides, the dimensions of independence (0.166) and economic returns (0.129) through self-affirmation indirectly affected self career choice. Conclusion Many factors affect the career development of novice nurses. Path analysis method is required to reveal the causal relationship.
