Methods Descriptive epidemiological analysis was performed on epidemic data of rubella in Weifang from 2006 to 2016. Results Totally 1 023 cases of rubella were reported in Weifang from 2006 to 2016, with an average annual incidence of 1.031 5/10 million. The incidences of the years from 2006 to 2016 were 0.21, 0.24, 0.18, 7.46, 0.35, 0.80, 0.10, 0.53, 1.35, 0.06, and 0.18 per 100 thousand, respectively. The districts with high annual average incidences (per 100 thousand) were Kuiwen (7.94), Weicheng (4.74), Hanting (3.31), and Fangzi (1.21). Six hundred and five were males and 418 were females, resulting in incidences among males and females of 1.24 and 0.88. The incidences among patients aged between 0~9, 10~14, 15~29, 30~34, and over the age of 35 were 0.94, 1.18, 3.46, 10.60, and 0.55 respectively. Among the 1023 cases, 72.24% occurred between March and May; 50.64% were students, 12.61 % were worker, 7.43% were farmers, 6.16% were business service providers, 5.87 % were scattered children, 3.62% were Housework providers and unemployed, 1.76% were children in childcare institutions, and 11.93% were others; 44.67% of the cases had immunization records, 8.21% had no immunization record and 47.12% had unknown records of immunization. Conclusion Students and young adults aged between 15 and 29 are the high risk group of rubella in Weifang City. Therefore, in addition to ensuring routine immunization, discovery of missed rubella vaccination and reimmunization should be implemented on the key populations; epidemic surveillance should also be reinforced to prevent the outbreak of rubella and to reduce the incidence of congenital rubella syndrome.
