Abstract:Objective To examine the level, trends and factors of the average length of stay in surgical patients in recent 10 years, and provide the basis for the overall management of the hospital, shortening the average length of stay and improving the efficiency of the hospital. Methods Data were from medical record first page of medical record management system of a tertiary hospital. The medical record data of patients discharged from 2004-2014 were studied, and the average days of hospitalization were calculated. Average length of stay in hospital was the number of days of hospitalization (that was, the number of days in bed), divided by the number of cases. The average length of stay of patients with operation was also described in this paper. Results The average length of hospital stay in hospital in the past 10 years was decreasing, which fell from 16.21 days in 2004 to 10.90 days in 2014, decreasing by 5.31 days. There are many factors that affect the average length of stay, such as sex, age, occupation, original, way of payment, length of stay before operation, and level of operation. Conclusion The average length of stay in hospital has been shortened in recent years through the implementation of various policies, which is conducive to the development of the hospital and reduction of the burden of patients.
