Abstract：Objective To analyze the epidemiological characteristics and the trends of infectious diseases and its hospitalization expenses in a tertiary hospital in Weifang City, and to provide the theoretical basis for the effective prevention and control strategies. Methods We took the first diagnosis as the standard for inclusion of infectious diseases of hospitalized patients according to the ICD-10 through 10 years and analyzed the characteristics of the patient population and hospitalization expenses by descriptive analysis. Results A total of 7 327 cases of infectious diseases were admitted in the hospital from 2006 to 2015. During this period, diseased population showed a rise tendency as a whole (χ2=12.58, P<0.001), and the average annual growth rate was 11.63%. Enteric infectious diseases (95.34%), respiratory infectious diseases (35.31%) and natural focal and insect-borne infectious diseases (33.37%) occurred frequently in <20 years old group; blood and sexually transmitted diseases were highest in the 40-59 age group, followed by 20-39 age group, together up to 68.66%. The incidence of male was more than that of female according to different routes of transmission with the sex ratio 1.55∶1; The incidence of occupational population was dominated by kindergarten children and students (67.20%). Per capita hospitalization expenses were 5 120.41 yuan, cumulative price rise was 136.54% from 2006 to 2015. In different forms of payment for medical expenses, patients with health insurance accounted for 57.06%, and self-paid patients accounted for 42.94%. Hospital expenses of medicare patients were relatively higher than those of self-paid patients, and the expenses of medicare patients per capita were increasing year by year. Conclusion Excessive medical treatment existed among medicare patients and restraining the excessive growth of the hospitalization expenses was still one of the important point of the hospital for a long time.
