Investigation on the current situation and influencing factors of nutrition knowledge of pregnant women in a hospital from 2011 to 2015 |

Abstract Objective To understand the current situation of nutrition knowledge and its influencing factors among pregnant women from 2011 to 2015. Methods Nutritional knowledge questionnaire which had been certified by nutrition experts at home and abroad was used to assess the nutrition knowledge of 1 885 pregnant women. Results The mean age was (30.2±4.5) years, and over the last five years, pregnant women on the relevant knowledge of nutrition was different. They understood some knowledge of nutrition well, but knew little about the other. There were significant differences in the scores of nutrition knowledge among occupation, education level, family monthly income and residence area (P<0.05).The higher the education level and family income were, the higher the scores were, with the descending order cadres, employees, business, farmers and others. Urban pregnant women scored higher than non-urban pregnant women. The level of education (OR=5.22) and occupation (OR=2.41) were the important factors that influenced pregnant women to master nutritional knowledge. Conclusion Pregnant women′s awareness of nutritional knowledge remains to be improved. Pregnant staff with at least college degree of education and with cadres as the occupations, can master the relevant knowledge of nutrition better, so we should develop different promotional programs for different layers of pregnant women.
