Abstract Objective To discuss the cognition and its countermeasures of caregivers of children with hand-foot-mouth disease in Community of Gongchenqiao. Methods Totally 245 caregivers of children with hand-foot-mouth disease were selected retrospectively from January 2013 to December 2017 in Community of Gongchenqiao, cognitive status was investigated by the self-made “Hand-foot-mouth disease cognitive questionnaire”, and the Results were statistically analyzed.ResultsIn this survey, 100 caregivers (40.82%) lacked cognition, mainly because they did not know the etiology, infection route and preventive measures. Single factor analysis showed that, gender, education level and occupation were related to the cognition of caretakers (P<0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that, male (OR=4.000, P<0.001), under junior college (OR=2.348, P=0.029) and non-health related occupations (OR=4.050, P<0.001) were the independent influencing factors of lack of cognition for caregivers.Conclusion The caregivers of children with hand-foot-mouth disease in the Community of Gongchenqiao lack cognition. We should strengthen the propaganda and education of relevant knowledge, which contains the cause of the disease, the route of infection, and the preventive measures, and the focus should be on the male, below junior college, non-medical and health related occupations.
