Advances in research on the mechanism of action of resveratrol against pituitary prolactinoma |

Abstract Prolactin-type pituitary adenoma is the highest clinically occurring pituitary tumor. Hyperprolactinemia is caused by excessive secretion of pituitary prolactin by pituitary prolactin cells, which leads to impotence infertility in male patients or menstrual disorders or infertility in female patients. At present, oral dopamine receptor agonists such as bromocriptine or cabergoline are the first choice for clinical treatment. These drugs directly affect the pituitary gland to inhibit the secretion of prolactin, thereby reducing the blood prolactin level. Approximately one-quarter of patients who remained on oral medication did not return to normal levels. Resveratrol is a polyphenolic compound extracted from plants. It is widely present in plants such as Polygonum cuspidatum and grapes, and has a variety of biological activities in the literature, such as phytoestrogens, antitumor, and cardiovascular protection. This article reviews the mechanism of resveratrol against pituitary prolactinoma and provides a new idea for the treatment of prolactin pituitary tumor.
