Analysis of pathogenic bacteria of patients with stroke and ventilator associated pneumonia in intensive care unit |

Abstract Objective To explore pathogens and drug resistance of patients with stroke and ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) in intensive care unit (ICU).Methods Sixty cases of stroke in ICU were diagnosed with VAP.Medical records such as pathogens distribution and drug resistance were reviewed retrospectively.Results Among 60 patients,123 strains were detected,including 97 Gram-negative bacteria (78.86%),8 Gram-positive bacteria (6.50%) and 18 fungi (14.60%).The most common Gram-negative bacteria were Acinetobacter baumannii,Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Klebsiella pneumoniae and Stenotrophomonas maltophilia. The most common Gram-positive bacteria was Staphylococcus aureus.The drug resistance tests demonstrated that bacteria mentioned above were antibiotic resistant.The fungi were Monilia albican and Candida glabrata.Conclusion The predominant pathogens of ICU stroke patients with VAP were Gram-negative bacteria with highly antibiotic resistance.
