Study on antioxidant capacity of paeonia extract |

Abstract Objective To determine the contents of Paeoniflorin in radix paeoniae rubra, and to analyze the antioxidant activities in vivo.Methods Paeoniflorin, an antioxidant component in radix Paeoniae rubra, was extracted by ultrasonic extraction method. An extraction agent with strong antioxidant activity was selected through in vitro antioxidant experiments. The effective component was further separated and purified by silica gel column chromatography. Paeoniflorin content was determined by HPLC.Results Seventy percent ethanol solution was selected and ultrasonic extracting was conducted from radix paeoniae rubra for 50 minutes according to the ratio of material to liquid of 1∶30. After extracting with n-butanol, silica gel column chromatography was used to obtain 2.34 % paeoniflorin. The in vitro experiments of the extracted part proved that the antioxidant activity of the product obtained by n-butanol extraction was the most optimal.Conclusion Paeoniflorin isolated and purified after ultrasonic extraction has been proved to have antioxidant effects in vitro experiments.
