Comparison on the effect of cone-beam CT and orthopantomography in locating impacted teeth of anterior maxilla |

Abstract Objective To investigate the role of cone-beam computer tomography(CBCT)in the diagnosis and orientation of impacted teeth in the anterior maxilla.Methods Forty-five impacted teeth in the anterior maxilla of 39 patients were selected, which were respectively examined by orthopantomography and cone-beam CT. The direction of crown growth, the position of the crown, root curvature and the development were observed and measured with the software of the system to analyze and compare the differences between the two examinations.Results CBCT was more effective than orthopantomography in diagnosing the direction of crown growth, impacted types, root curvature and the development,P<0.05.Conclusion CBCT can accurately locate the spatial position and the shape of impacted teeth.
