Investigation of conjunctival sac bacteria and drug susceptibility in perioperative of cataract |

Abstract Objective To study conjunctival sac bacteria and drug susceptibility in perioperative of cataract.Methods Totally 264 cataract patients were selected and sampled at four time points after admission,before surgical disinfection,after surgical disinfection,and after surgery.Bacterial culture and drug sensitivity tests were conducted to compare the bacterial culture and drug sensitivity results in different periods.Results The positive rate of bacterial culture of conjunctival sac after admission was significantly higher than that before surgical disinfection,after surgical disinfection,and after surgery.After admission,the bacterial culture of conjunctival sac was mainly staphylococcus epidermidis.Gram-positive cocci are more sensitive to cefoxitin,gatifloxacin and levofloxacin.Conclusion Staphylococcus epidermidis is the most common bacteria in conjunctival sac.Antibiotics should be routinely applied before the operation,and providone iodine should be used to wash conjunctival sac to prevent posto-perative infectious endophthalmitis.
